Naturalization is the process by which U.S. citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen or national after he or she fulfills the requirements established by Congress in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Our Immigration Law Clinic handles naturalization cases on a regular basis, and is actually hosting a series of naturalization workshops every month.
Every person that goes through the process of becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen must pass a naturalization test (unless that person qualifies for an exemption or waiver). Part of that naturalization test is a civics test — history, government, etc. — of which a person must answer 6 out of 10 questions correctly to pass.
Take a look at the civics test, especially my fellow U.S. citizens-by-birth, and tell me: Would you be able to pass?
